After an implant is placed, the first few days matter for good healing. For the first 24 hours avoid hot food, smoking and vigorous rinsing. You can hold ice against the outside of your face to reduce swelling.
For a few days choose soft foods and chew on the other side of your mouth. Brush as usual, but gently around the implant, and use the mouthwash your dentist recommends.
Once healed, an implant needs the same care as natural teeth: brushing twice a day, floss or an interdental brush, and regular check-ups. With good hygiene, an implant can last for many years.
